Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery is not just an institution - a dream, to open a new horizon in treatment of 18 million people in the country as well as post-graduate education and research in burn and plastic surgery.

This state of the art 500-bed institution has been providing uninterrupted services since its inception. 

The history of Plastic Surgery in Bangladesh is not very long. In the course of time, breaking the shackles of one hundred years of subjugation, on December 16, 1971, in exchange for a long and bloody nine-month bloody war, Bangladesh became our beloved homeland on the world map. 

At the invitation of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, US Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Ronald J Garst Introduction is the initial chapter in the treatment of plastic surgery.

Every year a good number of peoples are suffering from burn injuries. But burn patients were always neglected. There was no specialized medical service center for them. While visiting burn unit several times our Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina realized it by heart. Not only burn, but Plastic surgery facilities in Bangladesh was also very poor. Patients were suffering from trauma, Congenital anomalies, cancer patients were largely suffering for poor Plastic Surgery facilities in Bangladesh.

Honorable Prime Minister of the Government of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, who was the chief guest at the international conference, considering all these issues of Plastic Surgery, announced the establishment of a 500-bed International Standard Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Bangladesh. In this context, she laid the foundation stone on April 6, 2016. The Prime Minister inaugurated the building on 24th October 2017 and the organization started its normal activities from 4th July 2019. Now this state of art hospital is providing 24-hour emergency service to burn, trauma patients and routine medical services in the outpatient department from 9 am to 2.30 pm from Saturday to Thursday, 500 bed indoor services , all sorts of surgical services in 10 modular operation theaters . Critical patients are being treated in 20 bed modern ICU. There is also a state-of-the-art hyperbaric oxygen therapy center to treat respiratory burns.

Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed with different institutions of different countries to share knowledge and expertise to develop skilled manpower in various fields.

In addition, Research Cell Center has recently been set up at Level-9 of the institute to facilitate research activities. Teachers and students  will be given all the opportunities in research.

Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery is not just an institution. A dream ”- for the common people of the country. This state-ofthe-art facility has opened the door to new possibilities in the treatment of burn and plastic surgery since its inception. Has opened the  ladder of dreams of thousands of people. The contribution of this organization in creating skilled plastic surgeons through medical education, research and training is undeniable. Our dreams are the shadow of the sky. In the near future, the organization will take its place  in the world through its work.
